International Women's Day

One of the things that struck me a number of years ago, when I began travelling to Kenya was how many strong, independent, and inspirational women existed within the Kibera community. Small businesses are the life-blood of the slum and more often than not, the small-business entrepreneurs are the women who, as well as earning a modest living, are also caring for children and looking after the household.
And this theme carries through to the women that it is our privilege to call partners, who are football coaching young girls, leading healthcare and menstrual health training, delivering mentoring and drug awareness training, leading local associations, facilitating food relief for the most vulnerable and hard to reach in the slum community and managing our washroom and latrines.
So on International Women's Day, we thank you and honour you for your service and the positive impact you are having in your community. You know who you are. Thank you.
